Meet Our Foot Doctors
The foot doctors at Kansas City Foot Specialists can help relieve many kinds of foot pain. We have three highly skilled foot doctors on staff who are ready to treat your foot or ankle condition and rid you of the pain you have been experiencing.
Dr. David B. Laha
Dr. Laha is a leading provider of foot care in the Independence area. His extensive training has made him an expert in reconstructive foot surgery and sports medicine of the lower extremity. Dr Laha’s expertise is sought out by other physicians for their patient care as well as sports teams for the care of their athletes. He lectures for organizations and has provided local health reporters with information on a variety of foot and ankle problems and the latest medical innovations for the treatment of foot and ankle problems.
Dr Laha has been practicing in the KC area since 1985. He is a Kansas native born in Winchester and raised in Centralia. He attended Kansas Wesleyan University, graduating with honors.
Dr. Andrew M. Hall
Dr. Andrew M. Hall is a Dubuque, Iowa native. He completed his education in his home state, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2006 from Iowa State University and a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Des Moines University in 2010.
Dr. Hall went on to complete a three-year foot and ankle surgical residency at the Southern Arizona VA Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. He is confident in treating common toe and ball of the foot problems to complex heel and ankle issues. His interests in the field of podiatry include sports medicine, trauma, and limb preservation.
Feet Do Amazing Things
The foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles, and numerous tendons. That’s a lot of moving parts and places where problems can occur! Because all of these parts work together to allow the foot to move in dozens of different positions, injury can occur in just about every one of these parts.
Think of the demands put on your feet and ankles. They must move in a variety of ways while balancing your weight and propelling you forward, backward, and even sideways. Then, add to that that the surfaces we live, work, and play on are not always level and even. Plus, carrying extra weight, wearing fashionable shoes like high heels, and playing sports all demand so much more from our feet. It’s no wonder that 75 percent of all Americans will experience foot problems at one point or another in their lifetimes.
Podiatrists Are Much More Than Medical Doctors
Podiatrists are far more than simply foot doctors who treat toenail fungus, calluses, and bunions. In fact, your podiatrist is a highly trained foot and ankle specialist who has received in-depth training to address problems, injuries, and complaints of the lower extremities and perform surgery to fix these problems. A medical doctor, even if they are an orthopedist, has a broader, less focused base of training and education.
Their training and education on feet and ankles may be covered a few weeks, while your podiatrist invests years in understanding the complexities of these parts of the body. To become a doctor of podiatric medicine, your podiatrist has completed podiatry-specific training in medical school, clinical rotations in medicine and surgery, and a residency in podiatric medicine and surgery. Podiatrists know foot conditions and ankle problems inside and out.
The Only Foot Doctors with an On-Site Surgery Center
If you have to have foot or ankle surgery, the experts at Kansas City Foot Specialists offer the most convenient surgery experience with an on-site surgery center. The Surgery Center of Blue Valley, our on-site surgery center, is an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) conveniently located at the Kansas City Foot Specialists location in Overland Park. This state-of-the-art facility specializes in foot surgery and is fully licensed and regulated by the state of Kansas.
Having our own surgery center that concentrates only on foot surgery, allows us to focus on what we do best and provide top-of-the-line equipment to our Independence patients. Having an outpatient facility allows our patients to stress less about their surgery and focus more on getting the treatment they need. This also means you won’t have to stay as long and that you’ll be in an environment with less risk for infection.
Having the Surgery Center of Blue Valley on-site gives our specialized staff the ability to take care of all of your foot care needs in one place, from general consultation all the way to post-surgery follow-up.
A Conservative Approach to Foot Care
At Kansas City Foot Specialists, we have our own surgery center on site, but we approach our foot and ankle treatments with a primary focus on conservative methods, resorting to surgical treatments only as last resort. We fabricate and design functional orthotics, and our foot care center offers footwear, pads, supports, and lotions to help you take the best possible care of your feet. If your condition does require surgery, you’re in good hands with our experience podiatrists, the latest surgical techniques, and state-of-the-art technology.
