Make sure you have proper footwear for your summer activities!

Warm weather means a lot of activities running from one place to another, and you don’t want to be bogged down with pain. Hurting feet can throw a major wrench into your summer plans, whether that means running a 5k, fixing up your house, or taking that long-awaited vacation. Wearing proper shoes can go a long way towards preventing pain and keeping your feet healthy.

The first step toward wearing the proper shoes this summer is getting the right fit. You want your shoes to fit your feet and not be too big or too small, which can cause problems with your gait.

  • Try on shoes in the afternoon or evening when your feet are likely to be their largest from swelling throughout the day.
  • If you’re looking at exercise shoes, try on your normal size and one size bigger, because swelling can occur while playing a sport or working out.
  • Bring your own socks to the fitting to ensure the socks you will wear with these shoes will fit well and not cause any problems.
  • Always try on both shoes because your feet are likely different in size, and you want to pick the right size for both feet.
